Bangladesh beat India

It's so reassuring to slip into told-you-so mode about Bangladesh. We're not even sure who we're telling any more. Maybe everyone's accepted that they're a decent side now and we're still mumbling on like some demented old man in the corner of the pub.

Well we're not going to let 'seeming demented' stop us. Bangladesh beat India, many people's favourites for this World Cup. More than that, one of OUR players contributed.

As well as Saqibul Hasan hitting 53, the player who should probably have appeared as a World Cup player to watch, but didn't - because we imposed an unnecessary 'one player per Test nation' rule on ourself - Mashrafe Mortaza, took 4-38.

Now we're going to write an equally uninformative post about Saqibul Hasan because it's our site and if we want to clog it up with dull, self-serving updates about unknown Bangladeshis hitting fifties, then we will.

  1. Sure, you must tell the world about the brilliant Bangladeshi players. They deserve it.

  2. I reckon the arrogance of India misread Bangladesh.

India is the only Test playing country who did not invite Bangladesh for a tour as it won't be commercially attractive. India did not play Bangladesh since Dec 2004 so are mostly unaware of Bangladesh's progress.

In an Indian TV program "the Fourth Umpire" ex Indian player Kris Srikkanth dismissed the point that Bangladesh had beat NZ in an warm-up match. He said there is a vast difference between India and Bangladesh so Bangladesh simply is unworthy of an upset. India has come to win the world cup. If they loose the match against Bangladesh they should take the next flight home. Another Indian ex-cricketer Chetan Sharma commented India should not take Bangladesh seriously. If India should respect Bangladesh then they should not have come to this World Cup.

Well they were unavailable in the panel for the post match analysis.
